Senior Deals You Need to be Taking Advantage Of

According to Medicare and retirement savings accounts, 65 means entering your Golden Years of retirement. This magic number also unlocks numerous discounts, as well! While you may be aware of some of the more common senior discounts, like breakfast deals and AARP, there are plenty of other discounts for seniors that you might not be aware of. Common Senior Discounts

Auto Insurance: Most aging drivers don’t know that auto insurance is generally less expensive than before. The AARP Auto Insurance Program from The Hartford offers auto insurance policies exclusively for those over 50. Users save an average of $404 a year compared to conventional providers.
Banks: Many banks offer discounts for seniors, including free checking accounts and free checks. Ask your bank about special rates on savings accounts and bank services.
Barbers and Salons: Local barbers and salons provide great senior discounts that range from 10% to 20%. Some national chains offer discounts for seniors as well.

*Great Clips: Customers 65 and older receive a $1-3 discount off of the regular adult price for a haircut. Check your local Great Clips for more information.
*MasterCuts: Receive a 20% discount on all salon services and hair care products, Monday through Thursday (With senior discount card, 60+).
*Supercuts: Those 60 years old and older receive $2 off the regular adult price for a haircut.

Movie Theaters: Most movie theaters offer discounts to seniors, but often for certain showing times. Senior discounts at movie theaters can range from 25% to 60% off the regular ticket price and typically start at age 60 or 62 — but many have lowered the age to 55 or even 50.

*AMC/Loews Theatres: The second largest movie theater chain in North America offers up to 20% off the regular adult admission. (60+)
*Cinemark: Receive 35% off regular adult ticket prices. Cinemark also hosts Seniors Day every Monday, which is an additional 10% off all showings. (62+)
*Regal: Seniors receive 30% off movie ticket prices. (60+)

Museums: Most museums offer discounts for seniors but often for certain days or times. Be sure to ask prior to purchasing admission.

Senior Travel Discounts

Many individuals over the age of 55 are on the road to retirement and are likely starting to experience empty nest syndrome. What better time than the present to start traveling? There are numerous senior travel discounts available to those 55 and over.

Amtrak: Travelers 62 years of age and over are eligible to receive a 15% discount on the lowest available rail fare on most Amtrak trains.
Car Rental: Check with national firms like Hertz, National, Alamo, Enterprise and Budget. All of these dealerships have a discount program in place for seniors.

*Alamo: up to 25% off for AARP members
*Avis: up to 30% off for AARP members
*Budget Car Rental: 10% off; up to 20% off for AARP members (50+)
*Hertz: up to 25% off on Hertz Daily Member rates for AARP members
*Sixt: 5% off (50+)

Cruise Lines: Most cruise lines offer discounts for seniors, including AARP cruise deals.
Hotel Discounts for Seniors: Many hotels offer a range of discounts for seniors. Before booking, we recommend calling the property ahead of time to see what rates they can offer you.

*Hyatt: Senior Citizen Travel Rates could save you as much as 50% in the continental U.S. and Canada.
*Marriott: The hotel chain offers seniors 62+ at least 15% off their stay.
*Starwood Hotels: Westin, Sheraton, and others in the Starwood family offer AARP members 5-15% off their best available rates.

National Parks: Many national parks offer discounts to seniors, however some may provide specific days and times for discounted or free admission. For those 62+, the National Park Service offers a lifetime park pass with access to National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands for $80.

Discounts at chain restaurants can range from a free drink to a percentage off your entire bill. Having an AARP membership can help you get 10% several restaurant chains after age 50.
